In 1992, during the Womens Texas State Amateur in Bryan Texas, several golfers from Houston and Dallas began a friendly rivalry between one another. The seed was planted to have a friendly competition to establish which part of Texas was the best in Women’s s amateur golf.

The format is structured to that of the Ryder Cup, Walker Cup, and Curtis Cup – four ball matches, foursome matches and singles matches. Each match is worth one point and a tie is worth a half point. The first team to 12 1/2 points is named victor.

The first tournament, held at Sports Club at Las Colinas in North Texas, was far more successful than anyone realized and the Texas Cup became an annual event. The Women’s Texas Cup has become a very popular and competitive event through the efforts of many dedicated golfers from South and North over the years
